Abstract
Thirty two grade Zebu Batangas type bulls, 1 1/2 to 2 year old, were randomly allotted to 16 experimental lots (2x2x4 factorial design) in a feeding trial to determine the effect on liveweight gains, feed intake and feed efficiency of: (a) 2 levels on energy (54% and 60% TDN in total ration): (b) 4 levels of urea (0, 0.75, 1.0 and 1.25% of total ration): and (c) 2 levels of supplementation (with and without vitamin-trace mineral supplementation).
Neither energy level, urea level not vitamin, trace mineral supplementation had any significant effect on liveweight gains feed intake and feed efficiency of the bulls during a 126-day feeding period. No significant interaction among treatments was, likewise, noted.
Regardless of treatment, average daily gains (ADG) and feed efficiency of all animals ranged from 0.19 to 1.04 kg and 5.8 to 28.4 kg feed per kg liveweight gain, respectively. Over-all means were 0.56kg ADG and 11.5 kg feed kg liveweight gain. The overall average ration consisted of 54% concentrate and 46% rice straw and had a calculated 10.69% crude protein content. The over-all average daily feed intake was 5.9 kg consisting of 3.2 kg concentrate and 2.7 kg rice straw.
