Abstract

Four Black Japanese steers were fed on concentrate mixtures and rice straw ad libitum for 50 weeks. Two of them additionally received 5 kg. of green forage per day per head for first 22 weeks. Average initial body weight in green forage group and control group was 227.5 and 212.8kg, respectively. Total concentrate intake was 2716 kg. in green forage group and 2782 kg. in control group, and total TDN intake was 2197 and 2175 kg. respectively. Average daily gain was0.92kg. in both groups The data suggested that Black Japanese cattle may be fattened without green forage with proper economical profit.
