Abstract

Non-isothermal thermogravimetric data were analyzed to determine the reaction kinetics for rice straw at two heating rates (50 and 100 K min-1) in four different atmospheres (nitrogen, air, oxygen and carbon dioxide). Two particle sizes were used (40 mesh and 60 mesh). A simple first order multi-stage model approach was used to describe the reaction kinetics and to determine the reaction rate parameters. Four different stages of the conversion were identified. Activation energies are frequency factors are reported for the principal conversion stage using an approximate integral solution. The multi-stage model using first order kinetics provided good fit to experimental data.
