Abstract

A series of widely different fuels including a high sulphur agglomerating coal, an unreactive anthracite, hogfuel, sawdust, and a pitch derived from heavy oil upgrading have been tested in a pilot scale circulating fluidized bed facility . While many of the results are similar to those reported previously in the literature, it is clear that not all fuels and sorbents give the high combustion efficiencies and favourable sulphur captures that were reported in early CFBC studies. Temperature profiles also show that heat release patterns in circulating systems depend on the fuel reactivity and volatiles content.
