Abstract

Reaction rate constants were determined for rice hulls and rice straw using thermogravimetric techniques. Rate constants were compared with those of cellulose, obtained using the same procedure. The Arrhenius constants, activation energy and pre-exponential factors, are reported for cellulose, rice hulls and rice straw. Single and multi-component models were developed to predict the rate of volatile evolution, as a function of material composition (cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin) and temperature.
