Abstract
Conclusions
Sugarcane harvesting and transport equipment can be used for harvesting frozen sugarcane or alternate crops for biomass after the harvest for sugar production is completed. Use of a rotary rake for preparing windows of sugarcane residue and use of a forage harvester and a round baler for recovering the material is satisfactory. The field residue contained high amounts of sulfur and ash, which may cause pollution problems. Material baled with a round baler using cylinders to roll the bale had twice the bulk density of forage chopped material. A hay crimper reduced the drying time of residue windrows so that the residue windrows so that the residue could be collected before the ratoor crop sprouted, thus avoiding crop damage by the equipment.
