Abstract
This report presents the results obtained in a preliminary feasibility investigation of the potential for utilizing agricultural and forest residues produced in California as an alternative energy source for the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. PG&E can use residues as a supplemental fuel for power or gas production and at the same time ease the problems of residue disposal facing agricultural operations in the state.
Four types of residue appear to the most promising for initiating development of the technology to collect, transport, and convert residues. These are 1)field crop residues, 2) fruit and nut crop residues, 3) animal manures, and 4) logging and mill residues and brush.
