Abstract

Description of Project:

With appropriate technology, rice straw (now discarded) will be converted into building board by a continuous extrusion process and sold, nationally, as panel boards. Total investment is estimated to be about US$3.1 million (1993 prices). At full capacity (three shifts), output will reach 450,000-500,000 square meters. Support requested is a joint-venture, cooperative production, licensing, market access, expertise in management, technical and marketing. The San Isidro Integrated Livelihood Organization Inc. (SIILO) is the main proponent. The provincial government of Southern Leyte will give strong support and assistance by placing Philippine peso 30 million (US$1.15 million) in trust fund with the Southern Leyte Development Project for project equity with a written undertaking that the Government will not interfere with the operation of the plant.
