Abstract

California-Junction City

Several counties in California have already adopted AB 1314 guidelines for straw-bale construction, including Yolo, Glenn, and Napa counties. Other counties, (Mendocino, San Rafael, Sonoma, Humboldt, San Luis Obispo, Shasta) have approved straw-bale construction under section 105 (alternative methods and materials) of the Uniform Building Code (UBC).

In late March of this year the California Straw-Bale Construction Association (aka CASA) met at the Carrizo Plains to clarify their purpose and goals. The members identified three main focus areas to address: 1) ongoing education of members; 2) education of the general public; and 3) education of building officials.
