Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to review the physical and chemical features of cellulose and lignocellulosic materials that determine their susceptibility to both chemical and biochemical conversion processes. Except for certain recent developments, most of the information given below is adapted from an earlier, more detailed review published by Cowling and Brown (1).
