Abstract

Rice straw is a major cellulosic material which can be utilized for Single Cell Protein (SCP) production. Maximum protein yield is an important criterion in SCP production. Protein yield can be scaled up by standardizing various cultural conditions and by using appropriate efficient microorganism. Increase in biomass yield on Cellulomones CSI-17 with the increase in the strengths of Bergs' medium using bagasse was reported (Choudhury et al., 1980) This paper reports on the effects of increased strengths of medium on protein and biomass yield of Cellulomonas sp. (CBS. 7) using alkali pretreated rice straw.
